Technology Detox
Technology is an essential part of our lives whether we like it or not. We rely on our smartphones, watches, laptops, and tablets for almost everything. They help us navigate where we are going, help us stay connected to loved ones, provide us entertainment and order us food.
Most of the time, we are spending so much time looking at screens and communicating through them that we forget that we’re not actually interacting with another person. Social media has also made it easy to sit on our phones for hours just scrolling. There are many positives that come with advanced technology, but we also should be aware of how reliant we can be on it.
I think everyone should take a break from social media and technology and allow their minds to reset. There are many times when I feel extremely tired and overwhelmed when it is barely halfway through the week and I realize that technology has a major role in my daily routine. Technology detoxes sound scary, and impossible but they are actually really refreshing and eye-opening.
We miss out on many interactions with people in real life because we are so tied to our devices. Some of us find it harder to fall asleep at night because our mind is racing from staring at a screen for hours. Maybe set a timer for yourself everyday for how much time you can spend on social media. Or maybe choose a day out of the week to only pick up the phone if it’s for work or an emergency.
Taking a break and creating boundaries between yourself and technology is important not only for your physical health, but your spiritual health as well. It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to everyone else on Instagram, but we have to remind ourselves that we are only seeing the highlight reels of people's lives most of the time. Nobody wants to show the everyday mundane routines or the tougher moments.
Take a moment to step away from all of the noise going on in your phone or laptop. Go for a walk, clear the mind. You will feel so much better and more positive for the rest of the week.
