What inspired you to start your own business, and how has that initial inspiration evolved as your company has grown?
I’ve always watched glamorous women such as my mom and grandmother as a young girl get ready for the day. They would always step out in style no matter where we were going. I also watched women like Diane Carroll and noticed how graceful and poised she was. It really inspired me to carry myself in such a way. So now, as a wardrobe stylist for many stars and influential individuals, I make sure that I present them with the best looks for them to feel confident and comfortable. With confidence and comfort you can be sure to make a statement.
What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as an entrepreneur, and how have you overcome them?
The biggest challenges for me have been the NO’s that I’ve received from various agents and others. Hearing those NO’s made me want to dream bigger! So I did. I started to create my own work and become my own manager and agent. It hasn’t been easy but it’s definitely worth it. I’ve booked many of my clients on my own like Daymond John from Shark Tank and owner of Fubu. The recent publication for Lifetime Magazine with Daymond on the cover was styled by me! I’m proud of the many challenges that I’ve overcome, and I will never let them hold me back or dim my light.
Can you share a pivotal moment or decision that significantly impacted the trajectory of your business?
Many may know that I’ve also had a career as a model and actress for many years. One day, I was booked for a TV show called Blackish. That day forever chance my life career as a stylist. I know you're like "how did you go from being in front of the camera to behind it?" Well, here’s the story: I had a scene with Sean “Diddy” Combs where I played as one of his girls dancing and enjoying the night in a 1920’s setting. Once our scene was done I spoke with Mr. Combs and told him about my children’s shoe line and just like that he told me to speak with his team. I spoke to them and ever since I was working with Mr. Combs as his and many others wardrobe stylist.
In today's rapidly changing market landscape, how do you stay innovative and adaptable to ensure your business remains competitive?
I simply do not follow trends. I create my own lane and stay focused on creating stylish looks that are unique.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs who are just starting their own journey?
Stay dedicated to your dreams and make them reality everyday. It’s ok to start over as long as you just start. Also don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. If I was nervous and scared to speak to Diddy I probably would have made it this far in my career. Never get intimidated by no one or nothing.
