In honor of our "Out Of Office" IT Box, our IT Box Summer Edit for 2023, we're thrilled to bring to you this Q & A with one our IT Women! Please meet Divya, a Fashion Blogger.
1) Could you tell us about yourself and what initially inspired you to become a fashion and lifestyle blogger?
My name is Divya Parameswaran. I moved to Canada in 2014 all the way from India. Ever since I was a kid I was fascinated with fashion. Playing with colours and picking outfits for myself as a kid and as a teenager translated to my blog in 2017. I guess it was people on streets asking me about my outfit or my coworkers taking my help to style them that gave me the initial push to start blogging. It was a medium for me to talk about my experience with styling in the world of fashion. My blog is my happy space where I get to be creative and sometimes I do get out of my comfort zone which is great-:).
2) Do you typically stay up to date with the trends or lean towards outfits that make you feel best? What are some of your favorite brands at the moment?
I go read articles and follow fashion shows and trends. This is only to draw inspiration when I put together an outfit. I lean towards having a personal style that makes me feel the best version of myself. I also believe fashion is a form of self expression. I want my style to show my personality with ease, confidence and comfort.
There are few brands I am extremely fond of. I have to mention my love for RW&CO - a Canadian owned brand with values in fashion that align to mine. They are the best when it comes to office wear and I have owned some of the best outfits from them over the years. I do love shopping from Zara, Mango, H&M, Chicwish among other brands!!
3) How do you ensure that your content remains unique and stands out among other influencers?
I try to keep my content relatable. I endorse reuse and rewear!!I do reels on restyling one outfit multiple ways. My content is all about exhibiting the best sense of style that matches my personality. I define my style as feminine and chic. I do add a touch of my ethnicity in my outfits. My interest lies in adding East Indian flavour to my outfits sometimes. Through fashion I also want to create space for immigrants trying to fit into the western world. The idea is to blend in both cultures seamlessly - The culture we are born and raised with and the culture we choose to adapt with my choice of clothing.
4) What is a piece of advice you'd give to someone interested in better developing their own personal style? Do you have any suggestions on where to start?
The best place to look for outfits when in doubt about what to wear is in one's own closet. Look in your closet and select outfits that can be reused. Mix, match and pair them multiple ways. Always pick outfits that make you feel your best. Avoid outfits you are not comfortable in even if it is on trend. To start with building a wardrobe in neutral colours and picking basic pieces that can never go wrong helps. Never say no to a good pair of denims, a white shirt, trench coat, nude heels, white sneakers, black trousers and a good pair of sunglasses.
