Lead a Healthy Lifestyle: An Interview with Pearl Cicci

Pearl Cicci is a health coach and nutritionist who focuses on plant based approaches. She aims to help people properly nourish their bodies and lead a healthy lifestyle. We recently talked with Pearl to get some insight on what it looks like to live a healthy lifestyle and we also got some tips on how to keep us motivated. How did you get into this industry? Is this something you were always passionate about?
Growing up, I was always quite active and led a pretty healthy lifestyle. I have always had a passion for food, movement and taking care of my body. I knew I wanted to do something involved with food which turned into me pursuing human nutrition and helping support and educate people about healthy eating!
How do you stay motivated to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle?
One of my main drivers is that I want to feel good every single day. Over the years I have figured out what that means for me and what daily actions I need to take. I made a commitment to myself to continue to do the things that make me feel good everyday, which results in me leading a healthy lifestyle!
How often do you work out? How do you stay consistent with exercising?
I move my body everyday, that can look different depending on the day. I go to the gym 4-6 times a week usually. I stay consistent by making it a priority in my life and a non negotiable activity for the day. Of course there are some days that I miss, but for the most part I stay pretty consistent.
Do you find it difficult to have a plant based diet?
It is not difficult for me to eat plant based. I have never been a really big fan of meat to begin with. I love cooking and with my nutrition knowledge, it is easy to keep myself well nourished and enjoy my meals.
What are some key benefits of a plant based diet?
Some of the benefits of eating plant based are decreased risk of chronic diseases and cancer, lowered cholesterol, less inflammation in the body, increased energy, better digestion, promotes good gut health, supports a healthy weight, increased ability to focus, supports our immune system and overall health! Those are just a few but there are many more.

Do you ever have a cheat day? If so, what does a cheat day look like for you?
I don’t believe in “cheat days” or “cheat meals”. I believe in listening to your body and being in-tune with what will serve you in that moment. If I feel like eating a cookie, I will eat it. If I am at a special occasion and there are some treats I might have one if I feel like it. I am a big proponent of the 80/20 rule when it comes to eating.
How do you find your partners to collaborate with on Instagram? Do you have any tips you can give us on networking and collaborating?
They find me! I just post about products I genuinely like and would promote naturally. This seems to attract companies to me. Some tips I would say are to be genuine and authentic about the products you use, tag the companies in your stories or posts, engage with them and be patient. If you want to expedite the process, you can reach out to them yourself!
What is a piece of advice you could give us to keep us motivated to eat healthy?
The one thing I will say is to figure out why you want to eat healthy, your why is often a good motivator. Another important thing is to notice how you feel after eating certain foods, choose to eat more of the things that make you feel good!
